C.J. Anderson

C.J. Anderson is a retired American football running back and current high school football coach, best known for his time with the Denver Broncos, where he played a pivotal role in their Super Bowl 50 victory.

NFL Career

  •   Full Name: Cortrelle Javon Anderson
  •   Born: February 10, 1991, in Vallejo, California
  •   College: University of California, Berkeley (2011–2012)
  •   NFL Debut: 2013
  •   Retirement: 2020

Undrafted in 2013, Anderson signed with the Denver Broncos and quickly became a key contributor. In the 2014 season, he rushed for 849 yards and 8 touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl selection. He also caught 34 passes for 324 yards and 2 touchdowns. Anderson’s performance in Super Bowl 50 was notable, as he amassed 100 all-purpose yards and scored Denver’s only offensive touchdown in their 24–10 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Throughout his seven-year NFL career, Anderson played for several teams, including the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Oakland Raiders, and Los Angeles Rams. He gained over 3,400 rushing yards, averaging 4.5 yards per carry, and scored 22 rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he recorded 108 receptions for 900 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Post-NFL Career & Coaching

After retiring from professional football in 2020, Anderson returned to his roots in the Bay Area. He served as a volunteer offensive assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of California, Berkeley.

In 2021, Anderson took on the role of head football coach at Monte Vista High School in Danville, California. His appointment was part of a broader trend of former NFL players transitioning into high school coaching roles in Northern California.

Legacy & Impact

Anderson’s journey from an undrafted free agent to a Super Bowl champion and Pro Bowl selection is a testament to his resilience and determination. Now, as a coach, he aims to inspire and mentor the next generation of athletes, emphasizing the importance of hard work, discipline, and community involvement.
